Project OverviewKyle and the surrounding area has recently experienced explosive population growth as job creation throughout the Austin-San Antonio corridor accelerates. Hundreds of new homes are currently under construction or in various stages of planning, as new residents are attracted to Kyle's affordability, the high quality of education provided by Hays CISD, and award-winning residential developments such as Plum Creek. Rapid growth, however, does not come without challenges. In particular, striking a balance between residential and commercial development should be a priority to ensure homeowners are not overly burdened by local property taxes to support public schools and physical infrastructure. Focusing on economic development in Kyle should lead to increased local employment opportunities and reducing the need for long commutes into Austin and other cities. If properly leveraged, the establishment of a commuter rail station, along with the recent announcement of Seton Healthcare Network's purchase of 205 acres in Kyle, may provide strong opportunities for increased commercial development. Recognizing these challenges and opportunities, the City of Kyle is currently crafting an economic development strategic plan. The purpose of this plan is to prepare a vision for Kyle and identify goals, strategies, and actions to ensure its success. To assist in this process, the City of Kyle hired TIP Strategies, Inc., an Austin-based economic development consulting firm. The project will consist of several phases including an economic assessment of the area, the facilitation of a vision and goals, and the development of supporting strategies and actions. The work will culminate in the creation of a comprehensive plan to guide future economic development efforts in Kyle. This web site is designed to keep you informed about upcoming events, provide copies of presentation and reports (once they are complete), and serve as a mechanism for citizen input. As a resident of the Kyle area, your ideas will influence the development of this important endeavor. We invite you to please take a moment and share your thoughts in our online survey. |
